From 2005-2007 I was the Visiting Research Fellow at PARC (Photography & the Archive Research Centre) at London College of Communication. This two year fellowship funded by HEFCE looked at the effects of digital technologies on family photography and the shifting nature of these archives in the digital age. During this fellowship I worked on an archive of photographs spanning a twelve-year period. The images in the series entitled 'Résidence Astral' are all taken in my grandmother's apartment, an archetypal bourgeois dwelling in Brussels. I have visited her from early childhood and have documented the apartment since 1993 on regular visits from England with my mother. The images explore the interactions between people and space, capturing the psychological charge of the domestic environment. I am interested in the duality of experience within the familial realm that encompasses the closeness and comfort, as well as claustrophobia and ambivalence that we may feel towards members of our family. As a result of the fellowship I develpoed a website www.thelastpictureshow.org and a colour publication 'Field Study 7 - Résidence Astral'.
